Our Philosophy

The Learning Ladder Child Development Center staff believes children and parents are to be respected and treated with courtesy, dignity, patience, and compassion. While in our care each child is nurtured physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. Our experienced teachers and caregivers regard early childhood experiences with the respect and commitment they deserve and work to share this attitude with parents.

We believe children learn most naturally and effectively when engaged in developmentally appropriate activities that are responsive to their interests and experience. Throughout the whole learning process, we believe parents are children's first teachers. Therefore, we work to support parents in their efforts to guide children's development.

The mission of our program is to provide high quality, developmentally appropriate child care services to children aged 6-weeks to 12 years based around the following four goals:

  • Provide a safe and loving environment for children to stay while their parents are at work.
  • Provide a place for children to learn and prepare for success in school and life.
  • Operate a child development center of which clients are proud and satisfied.
  • Operate a child development center that has a happy staff.

The Learning Ladder is licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services and is currently working towards accreditation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
